For the first meeting, I learned about the camera functions and how to change it's setting to match with the conditions of the lighting when photo-shooting. I have previously learned the basic in art class, but this review was useful for me because I had not been using my camera for quite a time. I reviewed about using ISO, aperture, shutter speed, and focus. Through this, I am aware of my strengths, whether or not I am still aware of what I have previously learned. hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello

After we had our lesson about lighting theories during the previous class, Mas Agung let us apply those theories in the field. We tried practicing with available light, where the source of light comes from the sun. So we had to go outdoor and took photos using the light from the sun. I explored with taking photos of flowers from different angles to see the effect of light source on the object. This helped me to develop my skill as I am learning about available light. Also, it allows my strength of understanding the theories from previous class to be used. hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello

Today was a fun session with Mas Agung. Last class, he told us to bring a tripod. It turned out that we are using the tripod for bulb photography. I have heard and looked at several photographers doing bulb photography. Their results were very cool, because the photo created are from the lights that move in a certain time lapse. So we experiment the light sources from a hand-held firework, flashlight, and candle. We adjust our camera's shutter speed to below 0" (meaning, zero seconds) so the close and opening of the frame is shorter, which enables the light to be absorb by the shutter to create a long exposure. I enjoyed today's class very much because I was able to challenge myself in experimenting with different source of lights. I had also develop my skills and improve my weaknesses since I have not understand well about bulb photography.

Today, we were given the chance to apply our composition techniques in the field. We tried to explore the area to find good objects that can lead us to good photo compositions. I challenged myself to find ordinary objects and use the composition theories to make the object look more interesting. It was difficult for me, because the I already have in mind how the object looks like, so I had to try to make it look different. hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello

Today's class, requires us to bring an additional flash to understand the use of flash in low light conditions. Mas Agung said that eventhough the camera has a built-in flash, sometimes it is not enough because the power of the flash is rather small for some conditions. So an additional flash is useful. However, I still have not fully understand the use of flash, so I will try to experiment it more at home and ask Mas Agung on the next meeting. hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello

Today was another model photo shoot session, but this time it's outdoor. The lighting for outdoor photography is different, because we cannot control the angle of the light and the brightness of the light. This is where I apply the skills from practicing with available light, and arrange the model in accordance to the lighting. I am aware that the my weakness with photographing a model occur back in this session. However, I understand that in this session I have to push myself so that I can work with any type of photography. So I tried to contribute by asking the model to pose and look to how I want her to do. As time goes, I felt more comfortable with the model and it was not awkward for me anymore.

Today, we had a class study about lighting. There are several lighting techniques that are used differently for indoor and outdoor usage. We basically play with the aperture and the shutter speed of the camera to get the right exposure. We also adjust the ISO so it is right according to the condition of the area. We do not want to get a low exposure result because it creates a dark photo, where as a high exposure creates a bright photo. Setting the right ISO, aperture, and shutter speed enables the right exposure as a result. For this first meeting, I was aware that I am able to listen to Mas Agung's instructions well that I am able to understand how to get the right exposure.

For today's class, Mas Agung have us used our theories about lighting to be used indoor. He prepared studio lights that enables us our camera's to connect with those lights. So when we press the shutter button in our camera, the lights will flash. We learned to adjust those lights according to the room's condition. I have never worked with studio lights, so this was a challenge for me. I begin to understand it slowly by Mas Agung's help, so it helped me to gain more skills in functioning the lights. We had a few empty bottles set on a table with a plain background, and we tried to take shots from different angles to vary the lighting source. For our next class, Mas Agung told us to bring a tripod, but did not specifically tell us what it will be used for. Hm, I wonder what we are going to do.

Today we are back to learning about theories; this time we learned about compositions. There are different compositions that can be made and used in photography to enhance a better and more attractive result. Several compositions are like view points (different angles), asymmetrical and symmetrical balance, framing (using an object to frame another object), point of interests (certain points where an object is place in the frame to create an interesting composition), and other compositions. I personally like to explore with the view points composition because I try to take shots from different angles like the ground and upwards to create an unusual perspective. This developed myself with new skills through this activity as I am challenged to experiment on the angles. hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello

Today's meeting was another fun session with Mas Agung. We were taught about panning photography and high-speed photography. For panning, this is not the first time for me to learn the technique. I have previously tried panning photography, but it was very difficult so I have never successfully did it. However, I did not give up this time. I managed to understand the technique better by asking Mas Agung's for guidance. The correct focus and body movement in the moving object enables a good panning photograph. As for the high-speed photography, we played with shutter speed. Mas Agung's assistant dropped a block of cube into a glass of red water which then we have to capture at the right time. This creates a cool moving effect to the photo.

Today, as we have learned few of the necessary things for photography, we tried to apply all those practices and theories for a model photo shoot. We had an indoor session, where we applied our indoor lighting skills here. We all at the same time photographed the model, so it was difficult to direct the model where to look at and her poses. I do not have the strength with photographing models because I tend to not communicate well with them. Especially because she is a stranger, it was awkward for me to ask her to pose and look in a certain way.
