29 August 2012 My two friends and I, we prepared materials to teach to the children next week. We thought of starting by teaching the children about numbers since we were told that the children were still in kindergarten. We divide the jobs so that we can plan the materials effectively and we each know our responsibilities. Hello Hello Hello Hello Hello Hello Hello Hello Hello Hello Hello Hello Hello 12 September 2012 For this week, we are altered to teach a different grade level of students. Ibu Joyce thought that it would be easier for us to teach the students. So we taught students from grade 3-6 and helping them with their English homework. I made them translate words from Bahasa Indonesia to English. Words that I gave were like; animals (burung=birds, kucing=cat, etc.), fruits (apel=apple, jeruk=orange, etc.). At the end of class, we all played traditional games taught by the children. They were excited for next week's class of English as I am also excited. I have develop myself to be able to communicate and be friends with the children. 28 September 2012 Today, the students asked our help for their English homework given by their school teacher. The homework that had was basic English and it is based on their understanding of objects and family names. hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello 12 October 2012 Like what we have planned last week, today we gave the students the test on daily English words. The words are in Bahasa Indonesia and the students need to translate it into English. They have to correctly spell the words, or else they are cannot be done with it. Some students still struggle in spelling the words that have double alphabets to similarize it with the sound the word makes. After they were done, we then played some games to refresh our minds. 9 November 2012 We continued to teach the students about manners. We noticed that the students need to learn proper manners especially when meeting with strangers. At the end, we also play games to refresh their minds. 30 November 2012 Since today rained, only five students were able to attend class. So, we decided to play games in English. We played guessing animal names in English and perform skits. | 5 September 2012 This week, we taught the preschoolers to count from 1-10 in English. It was challenging to teach the kids because they tend to want to play and it was difficult to control their behavior. Sometimes, they would not listen to us and rather choose to play with the mates. So, we decided to do another activity. We also play and dance to a song to make the class entertaining since they are still very young and have so many energy. 21 September 2012 Today, we helped the students with their English homework by saying the words in Indonesian and the students have to understand the meaning in English then make simple sentences. I also asked two children to translate Indonesian words of family members (Ayah=father, Ibu=mother, paman=uncle, etc.) into English. At the end of class, we did a coloring activity since we can't play outside due to the rainy weather. We also gave them treats for those children who were able to answer the questions we gave. For example to translate an Indonesian words into English with spelling (red=merah, kuning=yellow, etc.). 5 October 2012 This week we planned to give the students a test for what have they learn so far about basic English words. We did a review for the students so they are prepared for a test next week. We reviewed on colors, animal names, and numbers. They were actively asking us of the words that they still could not understand. Also, they also asked how to pronounce them correctly. 2 November 2012 We taught them about manners in English, like polite words and how to say certain things politely in English. We thought that this was necessary because they need to understand how to behave correctly from when they are still young. hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello 23 November 2012 We taught how the students how to greet and read time in English.
